Transient ischemic attacks (TIAs): 'Mini-strokes'
In some cases, strokes are preceded by transient ischemic attacks (TIAs). These are sometimes called "mini-strokes."
TIAs are caused by a temporary loss of blood flow to a part of your brain. They have the same symptoms as a stroke.
Symptoms usually go away within a few minutes or a few hours. There is no way to predict if symptoms will last.
These mini-strokes require the same immediate attention as those of a lasting stroke.
