The Institute for Health and Healing provides integrative medicine at Abbott Northwestern
Hospital, both for inpatients and at an outpatient clinic. Integrative medicine
blends the best of conventional medicine with healing philosophies and a variety
of healing therapies. These therapies, often drawn from other medical traditions,
emphasize caring for the whole person and focus on healing as much as curing.
Founded by the George Family Foundation and the Ted and Roberta Mann Foundation,
the Institute for Health and Healing recognizes the value of conventional medicine
in treating many chronic and acute conditions, as well as its limits when dealing
with the complex needs of patients. In addition, like their conventional medicine
partners, practitioners at the Institute for Health and Healing advocate using
sound clinical research to test the effectiveness of complementary medicine practices.
