Sleep Laboratory

All sleep studies performed at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Sleep Center are conducted in a comfortable, secure, private bedroom.

Tests commonly done in our sleep laboratory are:

  • Polysonogram (PSG) - This test is performed on patients while they stay overnight at our facility. It evaluates the quality of nighttime sleep, monitors sleep patterns, breathing, heart activity, brainwaves and body movements.
  • Multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) - This test is performed on the day following a polysonogram to evaluate the degree of sleepiness and the patterns of sleep during daytime naps.
  • Maintenance of wakefulness test (MWT) - This test monitors a patient's ability to stay awake over time.

The Sleep Center is in the Minneapolis Neuroscience Institute located in the Piper Building on the Abbott Northwestern Hospital campus. To schedule a consultation or for more information, call 612-863-4516.
