Cardiac rehabilitation staff work with people who have had a myocardial infarction (heart attack), stable angina (chest pain), coronary artery bypass surgery, valve replacement, coronary angioplasty or stents. Each individual’s risk factors are assessed to develop a personal prevention plan and patients learn how to exercise for their heart.
Cardiac rehab includes:
Phase 1 begins in a hospital following a heart attack, heart surgery, angioplasty, or stable angina.
Upon discharge from the hospital, Phase 2 offers an outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program that generally lasts 4-12 weeks. At Buffalo Hospital, we offer cardiac rehabilitation in a open, gym setting with specially trained cardiac nurses who are attentive to your personal concerns at this time of your life. Patients are monitored at all times and programs are individually tailored. The program combines medical supervision, EKG heart monitoring, cardiac risk factor modification, the continuation of progressive exercise, dietary and stress management counseling.
