Buffalo Hospital collaborated with the National Association of Sports & Physical Education, North Carolina State University, pediatricians, dietitians, nationally reputed exercise physiologists and nine area school health and physical education teachers to develop, pilot and refine the DAAN Youth Curriculum. Featuring take-home family activities, the curriculum also includes parent educational offerings to support families in working together to make healthier choices. 75 percent of children’s nutrition is controlled by parents and parents set the tone for the family’s activity culture. Preliminary results indicate that the DAAN Curriculum successfully helped children control their Body Mass Index. Parent surveys indicate that student intake of fruits and vegetables improved significantly.
