The bone densitometry service for Unity Hospital is located in ambulatory care at Unity Hospital. The service is available Monday through
Friday, with early morning and evening appointments available.
DXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry), which is the "gold standard" procedure for measuring bone density, uses two beams of x-ray to measure bone structure deep within soft tissue, usually the hip and the spine. DXA only exposes the patient to 1/20 the radiation of a routine chest x-ray and far less than full dental X-rays.
The technologists that perform the DXA exams are all registered radiological technologists, certified by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry,
who specialize only in bone
densitometry. A radiologist from Suburban Radiology Consultants interprets all exams. Results of the exam are sent to your physician.
DXA exams can be scheduled through Unity Hospital's radiology scheduling at 763-236-7500. To speak directly with a technologist about the
DXA exam, please call 763-236-4578.
